Tuition Waivers

All tuition waivers waive only the tuition; the student is still responsible for any fees for the semester.

National guard
Students must complete paperwork with their commanding officer each semester to qualify for this waiver. The National Guard should send individual sealed forms that certify the student will receive the waiver to the Bursar’s Office. If applicable, the Bursar’s Office will ensure that the appropriate regional campus is notified.

Dependent Child Waiver
For eligible UConn employees, a waiver of tuition is extended to dependent children who are matriculated and enrolled undergraduate students at UConn.  These waivers apply to the Fall and Spring semesters only.  Please remember the tuition waivers waive only the tuition.  The student remains responsible for any mandatory fees and non-tuition charges.

Effective the Fall 2008 semester, employees are required to complete the on-line Dependent Tuition Waiver application available at http://dtw.uconn.edu.  The online waiver is available daily from 7:30AM to 5:00PM.  Employees must complete a form each semester.  The deadlines for completing your waiver application are May 1 for the Fall semester or November 1 for Spring.

Employee Waivers
There are three different types of employee waivers depending on the employee bargaining unit (UCPEA, AFSCME and Managerial). Although HR gives UConn employees until October 15 and February 28 to apply (for Fall and Spring, respectively), we strongly urge employees to complete their applications so as to meet the fee bill deadlines (August 1 and January 8) and to avoid late fees. Employees must complete paperwork that is available on the Human Resources website. If approved by HR, it will be forwarded to the Bursar's Office and your fee bill will be credited with the waiver. Please remember that employees receiving these waivers are not allowed to register until the first day of classes. If you desire, you may fax a copy of your application to the Bursar's Office at (860) 486-9236 and we will give you a temporary deferment until we are notified by HR.

Spousal Waiver
The student must complete forms on the Human Resources website. If they qualify for a waiver, HR will forward this information to the Bursar’s Office.

Veterans Waivers
The veteran must complete paperwork with the Office of Veterans Affairs (located in the Financial Aid Office) to qualify for the waiver.

Over 62 Waiver
This waiver pertains to any person sixty-two years of age or older who has been accepted for admission, provided this person is enrolled in a degree-granting program or, provided, at the end of the regular registration period, there is space available in the course in which the person intends to enroll. Students must notify the Bursar’s Office if they are over 62 years of age and a Connecticut resident. If any person who receives a tuition waiver also receives educational reimbursement from an employer, the waiver is reduced by the amount of the educational reimbursement.

Reciprocal Agreement tuition waivers
The University of Connecticut participates in the Reciprocal Faculty Dependent Tuition Agreement with two other New England Land Grant Universities, University of Maine at Orono and University of Rhode Island. The program may be accessed by faculty and non-teaching unclassified staff who are half-time or more on the regular payroll. Upon verification by the University, dependent children who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at either the University of Maine at Orono or the University of Rhode Island may be eligible for in-state tuition rates.

For additional details of this program, please contact Stephanie Wilson at stephanie.wilson@uconn.edu

September 11th Tuition Waivers
The State of Connecticut has passed an act (Public Act 02-126) which grants a tuition waiver for those residents of the state of Connecticut who are either dependents or spouses of victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The student must complete a waiver application at the Office of Student Financial Aid. The form can be completed in person, via fax or mail. The Financial Aid office will then forward this information to the Bursar’s Office and will apply the waiver to the student’s account. Any questions regarding eligibility for the tuition waiver should be referred to the Office of Student Financial Aid at (860) 486-2819.
