Hope
Scholarship
Although not a scholarship in the traditional sense, the
Hope Scholarship rather is a federal tax credit for college
students and families. Students enrolled in six credits
or more within the first two years of an undergraduate program
are eligible.
Under
the Hope Scholarship, students pay their tuition and fees
and then claim a tax credit against their tax liability.
Students may take a credit of 100 percent of the first $1,000,
and 50 percent of the next $1,000, for a maximum of $1,500
in any tax year. Students are eligible for the credit for
two years.
The
University will mail an IRS Form 1098-T to the student's
home address each year in mid-January. Although the University
provides the Form 1098-T, information regarding filing must
come from the Internal Revenue Service or your financial
advisor.
The
University does not provide tax advice to your specific
situation. However, you may obtain a copy of IRS publication
970, which explains the 1098-T, by clicking here
